Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located numerous other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important political figure said the attack rendered him stunned and had to be solved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
